Review by Anthony Germani:
I believe that the illustrations that go along with this excellent telling of Rosa Parks life are amazing. The painted pictures in this book give us exact pictures of what Rosa Parks looked like and gives us specific examples of how bad segregation and the Jim Crow laws were. This book shows us the importantce of Rosa Parks in the ending of segregation and shows us how she earned the nickname mother of the revolution. She was an important part in United States history and this book tells the story so that young children can understand the significance that she had on this country.
This book would be useful when teaching:
I would use this book to teach a lesson on Rosa Parks. The social studies text book will have a section on her but I believe that children need to know her whole story. This book provides students with an inside look into the life of Rosa Parks. This would be a unique way of teaching segregation because the students would get to see how awful it was but also how it was overcome and the important role that Rosa Parks had in it's ending.
