Boot & Shoe is an exciting story through the funny written words to the detailed illustrations. Frazee does a wonderful job introducing the characters and changing the moods of the dogs throughout story. The humor travels from the beginning of the story until the end. The mood of the story changes throughout from humor, to pain, hunger and patience. Although the story takes place in only one day, there is a lot of action between the characters. The illustrations match the written text through demonstrating the emotions of the dogs through simple posture changes and the way they wait for something to happen. In the end, the illustrations and written text demonstrate the overall moral of having patience.

- Boot & Shoe is a wonderful story to use in multiple different educational lessons. The simple theme of the story represents the sequence of the storyline through descriptive illustrations and written text. This book can be read aloud in order to help introduce a theme of discussing differences. The two characters in the story look almost the same except they prefer to do different things during the day. This book can be used in to help young children identify their own uniqueness and what makes each student special.
- Boot & Shoe can be used in the theme of theatre. The students can take turns being Boot, Shoe or the squirrel. The students can reenact the story through understanding the different main events. The teacher can have the students where different colored socks to represent the two characters.
