Summary of Professional Reviews: The Horn book guide online gave this book a rating of 2. They really enjoyed this classic book and “Carle’s bold, brilliantly colored animals…and the simple text is large enough and in a clean enough typeface to be quite readable.”
Review by Madie Henderson: I really enjoyed the repetition of the story line. This is great for young readers just beginning to learn word recognition. Also, this is story is perfect for introducing different animals and their colors. I really liked the pictures and Carle’s cut out technique to illustrate Martin’s repetitive and rhythmic text, “Brown bear, brown bear what do you see?”
This book would be useful when teaching… Teacher could use this books to teach the concepts of color. The pictures are a great way to teach color word recognition. Also, the rhythmic texts makes it easier for children beginning to read.
