Review by Christine Grasser: “Bugs in my Hair” combines factual text with bold illustrations to teach about the common occurrence of head lice. There is variety in language, beginning with “one day, my mom made a terrible, awful discovery” and proceeding with big, gross, disgusting pictures of head lice. The story walks through the different stages of the lice lifecycle using the proper terms, and in some scenarios illustrates some common non-medical treatments. Even though the reader might find himself or herself scratching their own head by the end, it is still informative and realistic.
