Summary of Professional Reviews: Horn Book gave this book a 1 rating. They liked how the simple pages allowed the focus to be on the always expressive pigeon. They also liked how the pigeon elicits the reader's participation.
Review by Alexis: This books is a quality children's book. Just like Horn Book states, the book's pages are simple and it can show the wide range of emotions the pigeon experiences. The reader can really feel the emotions that the pigeon experiences and the reader gains a deeper investment in the pigeon character. Also, the book attempts to gain the reader's interaction with the story. That helps the reader become more interested in the story and more willing to see it to the end.
This book would be useful when teaching… This book would be useful as a read aloud at the beginning of the school year when introducing the rules to the students. The students will be asked by the bus driver to not let the pigeon drive the bus and they have to follow that one rule. It would be a good way to introduce the topic of rules and why it is important to follow them. The resulting book talk would consist of questions such as, "Why shouldn't the pigeon drive the bus?" and, "How would the ending be different if the pigeon was allowed to drive the bus?"
