Review by B. Elizabeth Harclerode
It was bedtime and the five little monkeys bathe before going to bed. Then, they put on their pj's, brushed their teeth and finally they all went to bed. They slept together in the same bed. They said goodnight to their mother and all of the sudden all five monkeys began to jump on the bed. Unfortunately, one monkey fell off the bed and one by one fell off the bed. Without a doubt, this book is a fun way to engage young children in literature. Children enjoy repeating and singing along to Five little monkeys jumping on the bed..." I think that the author was successful transmitting the energy of the monkeys and because they were being so rambunctious they got hurt.
This book would be useful when teaching…
Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed can be use to teach children about being safe and that children shouldn't jump on the bed because they can fall and hurt themselves. Also, this story can be used to teach children about having good listening ears and following directions.
In addition, this book can also be used to teach basic math concepts. For example, counting one to five and they can learn about subtraction. Thus, an activity is to make a felt board and have an interactive reading with the students.
