Review by Sasha Ishak: Froggy Goes to School is a fun and exciting book that is good for children who are first going to school. In the book the mother frog comforts Froggy by saying it is normal to be nervous on the first day of school, and that every child entering school feels that way. In the book some of the pages have some white space, and illustrations that are dispersed throughout the pages of the books. The pages that portray this are visible when Froggy tries to hide because he was in his underwear. The illustrations look like they were made from watercolor paints. The text is dispersed evenly on each page and is easy for a Kindergarten student to read without hesitation. Young children can relate their emotions about the first day of school to how Froggy was feeling in the book. Children can relate to Froggy emotionally and physically while reading this picture book. Relating back to a child’s own life and their first day of school is the underlying message of the book. Its a picture book that is simple yet so informing and beneficial for young readers.
This book would be useful when teaching... Froggy Goes to School is a great book to read to either Kindergarten or First grade. The teacher can read this to students during the first week of school to ease student’s nerves about the beginning of the year. Students can relate to Froggy and how he feels about his first day of the year. Teachers can read it on the first day of school to see exactly how children are feeling and what emotions are occurring in their heads at that time of the year. A teacher can read it to see what happened on their first day of school and see what they thought would happen. This book allows students to see that although they may worry about new experiences and we might be overcome with nerves, that new things typically don’t turn out the way a person perceives them. New things often don’t turn out bad after all. |
