Review by Ivette Thompson: I really enjoyed reading this book. I think that it would be a great addition to my classroom library one day. I think that many children, not only African Americans, will be able to relate to the idea of not liking their hair being comb because it hurts when it is tangled. The illustrator did a great job with the images. They are very detailed and very realistic. I really like the lesson being taught through this story. I think many people have the idea that “good hair” is straight hair which makes other that don’t have straight hair feel unlucky. This book teaches young girls hat curly hair is just as nice.
This book would be useful when teaching….
· This book would be very useful when teaching children about acceptance. It teaches them to accept themselves and other as well.
