Summary: This story is about a little boy who has a lot of good positive wishes.
Summary of Professional Reviews: The Horn Book Guide gives this book a rating of 3. The review explained that each of the fourteen wishes are "illustrated with a gentle funny-cute scene". Kirkus' review describes that this book is "a collection of parental wishes for a child". Kirkus also explains that some of the concepts in the story and the pictures are a bit confusing. One example that Kirkus gave was the line that reads "I wish you more treasures than pockets". Kirkus explained that in the picture that follows this line there is a "boy on a beach, his pockets bulging with driftwood and colorful shells, looking frustrated that his pockets wont hold the rest of his beachcombing treasures". Kirkus also explained that "The beautifully simple pictures are a sweet, kid- and parent-appealing blend of comic-strip style and fine art".
Review by Ivette Thompson: I like how the book is written demonstrating opposites and we can see that from the first page which reads “I wish you more ups than downs”. I also enjoyed the fact that each is represented by a different child and different ethnicities are represented through the children. This book uses a lot of repetition and I think that it would be a good read for young readers. The illustrations also do a good job at showing the emotions that the children are feeling.
This book would be useful when teaching...

This book would be useful when teaching...
- This book could be used to teach opposites
- it can be used to introduce new site words because the line "I wish you more" is n every page.
- it can be used to teach children "than" when we want to make comparisons
