Summary: This is about a little girl named Trixie who goes to a laundromat with her father. While there she loses her precious knuffle bunny and the dad has no idea what is wrong because Trixie is too young to start speaking. It is only until they get home that the mom figures out what's wrong and goes back to get her daughter's stuffed toy.
Summary of Professional Reviews: Hornbook gave this book a rating of 2. Although they thought this book was simple they liked how the colors of the illustrations and the "retro-style" illustrations complimented and portrayed the easy to follow along with story.
Review by Kitty Anthony: I enjoyed reading Trixie's adventure. I believe that many young children can relate to this story because they usually have something they consider very special. Although the story was easy to follow I believe that the author told this story nicely and I appreciated how he provided the readers with different locations throughout the story. I believe that the illustrations, although simple, did enhance and portray the story in a colorful manner even though the colorful characters were placed in front of a black and white background.
This book would be useful when teaching…
Teachers can use this book when teaching young children about emotions and communicating. The students can describe the emotions that Trixie is feeling throughout different parts of the story and explain why she feels that way and identify what is stopping her from communicating. Since Trixie says her very first word at the end of the book the teacher can also ask his/her students what their first words were and maybe make a chart of the entire class' first words. The teacher can also ask the students if they have anything that means a lot to them. The teacher could also have the students bring that object in and share it with the class.
