Publisher: Greenwillow Books
Year of Publication: 2011
Genre: Fiction - Fantasy
Horn Book or Kirkus Reviews rating: 1
Summary:
This adorable and clever story of a bunny rabbit who is hopping around and wondering about his surroundings. He wondered what it would be to be green, tall, not able to move. Yet, he did not wondered who loved him.
Professional Review:
A little white rabbit has limitless curiosity and imagination to match. Square-bordered pictures of the energetic bunny face clean white pages with a simple line or two, in which the rabbit "wonder[s] what it would be like to be..." just about everything. Alternating full-spread illustrations depict his rich inner life. Bold lines, expressive movement, and a springtime palette will delight the child's eye.
Review by B. Elizabeth Harclerode:
The story started with the image of a white fluffy bunny rabbit. He was hopping all over the meadow. He was admiring his surroundings. The author was able transmit through his illustrations and brief description the emotions he wanted to convey. For example, when he said, "He wondered what it would be like to be green..." Then, right after the illustration of the rabbit colored in green was cleverly done. One could sense that the bunny rabbit didn't like the way he looked colored in green. Also, it was clever to highlight all the animals that may be color green. (Turtle, grasshopper, frog etc...) All in all, this book is perfect to engage children in conversations about what is going to happen next. Beautiful, pencil drawing, the colors we soft, and pastels. This books may catch the attention of young readers because of the illustrations and unpredictability.
This book would be useful when teaching…
This book would be useful when teaching about the spring season. Read it out loud while performing dialogic reading to engage students with the text. Ask questions, stretch their imagination. For example, "what do you think the bunny rabbit is going to do next?"
