Genre: Fiction and Chapter book
Horn Book: 2
Summary: Jeremy Bean encounters several problems but always finds a way to solve them. The book is divided into three short stories.
Summary of Professional Reviews: It seems that everyone Jeremy Bean knows collects something, and when his teacher invites the kids in his class to bring in their collections to share, Jeremy is stumped—what can he show? Some readers may realize even before Jeremy does that he’s a natural collector of stories in the satisfying conclusion to the first of three appealing, episodic stories in this chapter book for independent readers. Each section is further divided into chapters, providing good breaks in the reading, but the narrative contains enough tension to keep readers going. Jeremy cleverly solves his own problems, but he gets help from two supportive older males, his grandfather and a not-so-scary-after-all principal.
Review by Kim Beers: The book creates a funny and inviting storyline behind the characters. Jeremy is a reoccuring character from other books which some students might have read and will be more wanting to read the book. The plot is very cheerful for students. The illustrations of the book complement the text and bring the characters to life. The different chapters were broken into episodes so it provided the students with a little bit of variation to keep the reader interested.
This book would
be useful when teaching…
Look Out, Jeremy Bean! Would be useful when teaching children about solutions to problems. Everyone is going to encounter problems in their life and the way you go about solving them is up to you. The teacher could demonstrate problem solving skills for the students. This would also be a great time to establish rules so students know how to properly solve problems within the classroom.
