Summary: Miss Bindergarten is a Kindergarten teacher celebrating the last day of school with her students. The students are doing different things to get ready, like giving back projects or emptying their cubbies. The students bring in gifts for Miss Bindergarten to say goodbye and maybe to help her remember that school year with them.
Summary of Professional Reviews: It seems as though each of the reviewers found this to be a good and useful book. This book was mentioned as part of a series of seven other books, and when it finally reaches time to read this book, this teacher has become the students' favorite. The reviewers believe that the illustrations in this story compliment the text well and include many different types of animals, even animals in a wheelchair. It seems as if this is a very good book to read on the last day of school.
Review by Sarah Custard: I believe this book is perfect for the last day of Kindergarten. In Kindergarten, the students learned their alphabet and this story includes an animal with the name of each letter in the alphabet, which is a good review for the students at the end of the year. I liked that the illustrator included a student in a wheelchair because it is possible that any teacher could have a student in a wheelchair, so it makes the story more realistic. I believe this book to be realistic fiction because there is always a last day of Kindergarten and the students do go through those motions of saying goodbye and emptying everything out, which makes it realistic, but the fact that the teacher and students are animals makes it fiction.
This book would be useful when saying goodbye to the students on the last day of school. I remember at the end of every school year that I would cry because I was sad to be leaving all of my teachers, and I believe this book may make it easier on the students that would get upset by leaving. I think this book is a nice way to review information with the students (like the alphabet) and is a good way to end the year.
