Summary of Professional Reviews: Kirkus praises Carle's brilliant collage illustrations and acrylic pages that hide the fish that Mr. Seahorse passes on his journey. Kirkus also praised the repetitive phrases and the predictable structure of the book.
Review by Alexis: This book is beautifully illustrated with each sea creature represented with brilliant detail. The book is very informative on the hiding places of different sea creatures. Also, the book teaches children about how different creatures care for their eggs.
This book would be useful when teaching… This book would be useful as an introduction to a sea life unit. The two different topics brought up in this book, different camouflage techniques used by sea creatures and how father sea creatures care for their babies, could be used as research topics for third or fourth grade students. The students could research and create posters on their research.
