Summary of Professional Reviews: Mrs. Mack is another impacting story that effected Patricia Polacco's life. Her story teaches so many lessons in just one book. From how to deal with other kids who can be mean then to sticking with something you love. Her art work of the horses makes them look very majestic.
Review by Janelouise Fuscellaro: I thought this book was full of beautiful art work and text. Her act of remembering these childhood experiences and writing them down into stories is special. Polacco's voice shines out from the pages. I like how the story laid out, she didn't just love horses. She went through experiences and different people to get to the ending love of horses.
This book would be useful when teaching…
This would be a great story for children to read when learning about horses. First maybe the class could read a different book about wild horses then read this story. Student would be able to see the difference of an animal in the wild vs. an animal that is cared for. It shows the responsibility people take on when they own horses and ride them. Also this book show companionship and love towards an animal.
This story would also be a good one to read before the summer time. Polacco goes to her father farm and rides horses over the summer, therefore the students could share their experiences or hopes for the summer.
