This book allows children to read about another culture and understand some of the things that they do and how their lives may be similar to what they do.

The art work truly expresses the culture of Celia and it lends itself to the format that is done nicely because it is basically a timeline of her life. The plot of this book is engaging for readers of English and Spanish simply because the book is written in both. The Pura Belpre Award which is given to a Latino/a writer and illustrator who best portrays and celebrates the culture in an outstanding work. This book received the Pura Belpre Honor Award which means that it did not win the award for that year, but it is still an outstanding book that represents the Latino culture.
