Summary of Professional Reviews
Horn Book Guide summarizes this story with a boy's parents forcing him every Tuesday to eat his peas. His parents do this knowing that the peas will soon turn him into the dreaded "veggie monster." Collage cartoon illustrations heighten the comedy with their droll depictions of the melodramatic eater and his weary audience.
My Review
This story is very humorous. Young children will definitely enjoy this book because of how relatable it can be. Most kids don't like vegetables and this story will give both children and adults a good laugh. The way McClements illustrates this with large, bright pictures and different font sizes of words will definitely keep the readers engaged.
This book would be useful when teaching...
young children to not be afraid to try new things. They will even find out through this story that even though the little boy did not like his vegetables, he was completely fine after and they are not so bad!
