Review by Kitty Anthony: This book has a certain energy and truth to it that children will love to read it. Since David is so used to hearing "No", children can relate to this when they do something they shouldn't have. His antics are expressed through the colorful illustrations that help children visualize throughout the story. It also reminds children that no matter how much trouble they get into their parents will still love them.
This book would be useful when teaching… Although this book occurs within the character's home, I believe that the book's main ideas could be translated into the classroom. The teacher could read this to students the first week of school and explain to them that he got in trouble for doing certain things. This could be a good transition into an activity where both the teacher and students think of classroom rules together and things that should not occur in the classroom. They could also think of consequences if someone breaks a classroom rule.
