Summary:
This book is about seven blind mice that realize an unusual object in the pond and each one of them approach this object to try to discover it. The last mouse puts all of the clues together to realize that the object is an elephant.
Summary of Professional Reviews:
The Horn Book Review say that this book is "immensely appealing" because of the spareness of the text which echos in the collage throughout the book. This is an Indian fable about each mouse approaches an elephant and each believe it is a pillar, a snake, a cliff, a spear, a fan, or a rope. The last mouse to visit the elephant puts all the pieces together to discover that it is an elephant.
Review by Ranim Sankari:
Seven Blind Mice is a book about seven different colored mice approaching an "object" and trying to figure out what it is. Each mouse relates it to something that they think it is depending on the part of the body that they visited. For example, one mouse thought it was a snake and another thought the object was a pillar. The last mouse realized that it was none of the other things that the mice said. This mouse put all of the clues together that discovered that it was an elephant!

This book would be useful when teaching...
- This book can be used when the teacher is introducing the five senses. Students can relate to see what sense the mice were using when they gave their guesses about what they thought the object was.
- Students can also learn that breaking things down and then putting it all into a whole is a great way to learn something.
