A captain orders his crew to find all of the letters in the alphabet. If they do not find all of the letters, they have to walk the plank.
Summary of Professional Reviews:
This alphabet takes a pirate crew on a quest. The crew sails away to find all of the letters in the alphabet. Driven on by a crocodile
commander wearing both a hook and a rubber-ducky inner tube, a crew of other animals sail off to an island where they visit Anchoring in a Bay, then gather a Cannonball, Doubloons and so on, capped by a cabinful of Z's at the end. The illustrator creates easy-to-find letter forms into his cartoon scenes. The author inserts multiple examples of each letter into her lines of verse for observant young readers to spot.
Review by Kim Beers...
A pirate orders his crew to find the alphabet and if they do not find all of the letters they are in 'deep waters.' The characters are animals which makes it more playful for the children. This books allow the students to learn the alphabet in a cartoony manner.
This book would be useful when teaching...
Shiver Me Letters can be used with helping the students learn the alphabet and letter sounds. The teacher can conduct a treasure hunt, similar to the book. The students can go around the room looking for hidden letters under or on objects that begin with that letter.
