Summary of Professional Reviews: Horn Book gives this book a 2. Horn Book likes the simple text and animated illustrations. They also like Willems ability to give a lesson about behavior in a subtle way.
Review by Samantha Formato: The duckling starts out this book by receiving a cookie after asking for it politely. This book is a simple and comical way to help children learn about behavior. It draws you in with the simple, illustrations that let you know exactly how the pigeon is
feeling. There is not a lot of text on each page, but there is a lot of emotion built into the text that is there. It is a great book for children to interact with and it will definitely keep them interested as the pigeon expresses its frustrations with not getting what it asks for. The size of the text differs throughout the book and it helps the readers to understand the characters feelings and voice. This book is very kid friendly and the language the author uses makes it very easy for children to understand the purpose of the text.
This book would be useful when teaching… This book would be great for circle time in an elementary classroom. It would keep the students engaged with its comical text and would also help to teach them about being polite. It would be easy for children to understand this books
message.
