Summary: In The Little Yellow Leaf, we follow the Leaf waiting to become ready to let go of the oak tree. As the other leaves fall, he hangs on tight until he realizes he is not alone. Once talking to the Scarlet leaf, they decide to let go of the tree together and flutter away.
Summary of Horn Review: With it's poetic writing The Little Yellow Leaf tells a story about a leaf who will not let go of the oak tree because he believes he is not ready to let go yet. After making it through the fall and into winter, he finally lets go with the help of the Scarlet Leaf and they let go and danced away together.
Review by Terese Wylie: The Little Yellow Leaf, tells the tale of the Yellow Leaf who is afraid of letting go of the tree. After hanging on through the seasons he realizes that he is not the only one who "wasn't ready to let go". After talking to the Scarlet Leaf, they decide to let go together and they float away in the wind together. Carin Berger supports her poetic writing by creating collages instead of painted or drawn illustrations.
The Little Yellow Leaf can be used in a classroom as a book to show students that not everyone will be ready at the same time, but everyone becomes ready on their own terms. This book can also be a lesson in other forms of poetry besides ones that rhyme.
