Summary: A comical book about a pigeon that finds a hot dog. Throughout the book the pigeon has to decide between sharing his hotdog with the duckling or keeping it for himself.
Summary of Professional Reviews: Horn Book gave this a review of 2. Horn Book really likes how, “Willems is as adept at depicting the daily dramas in a child's life as he is at using subtle changes in line to convey shifting emotions.”
Review by Samantha Formato: This is a very comical book with a simple message. It has great illustrations that are simple; yet show the expressions of the characters wonderfully. The text is so simple, but expresses the characters tone vey well. Children will love this humorous book about whether or not the pigeon decides to share his hot dog. I really like the interactions between the pigeon and the duckling and the way the author adds humor to such a simple moral lesson.
This book would be useful when teaching… This book is great for younger children. The text is simple and the pages do not have
a lot of text on them. This book would be a great way to introduce sharing in a classroom. It is very humorous so the children would love the book and enjoy reading it. This book is also very interactive. The teacher can ask many questions while reading the book out loud to students.
