Review by Ranim Sankari: The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a wonderful children's book that portrays many educational incorporated within it. The author has done a great job of representing the scientific process the cycle of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly by adding humor to the story. Another great thing the author added is addressing the days of the week day by day as the caterpillar ate through different foods each day. The intended meaning behind this book was to be funny yet educational and I believe the author touch both aspects. The illustrations are drawn perfectly especially by adding the holes in each fruit which I thought brought uniqueness to the book.
This book would be useful when teaching…
- This book can be used when teaching a science lesson about the stages of Metamorphosis. Children can look at the illustrations for assistance in knowing which stage comes first. This book can be a great introduction to this type of lesson
- Another way this book can be used when teaching is that a teacher can use this for preschoolers that are learning the days of the week. The teacher can incorporate the days of the week by what fruit(s) the caterpillar ate that day.
