Review by Kim Beers...
The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a great children's book. The illustrations on the pages have won awards and are very unusual compared to other books. The caterpillar begins by eating all different kinds of junk food. The caterpillar gets fatter and fatter. He eventually turns into a cocoon and transforms into a butterfly. What is interesting about the book is that at the caterpillar eats, the book is full of holes where the food is. It allows children to interact with the book.
This book would be useful when teaching...
The Very Hungry Caterpillar can be used in health. It could teach students which foods are healthy or not. Teachers an have students create a we list of foods that are healthy that the caterpillar or themselves could eat in place of junk food.
