Review by Sasha Ishak: This concept picture book White is For Blueberry demonstrates a well written, well created book for children who are learning about colors. The title alone catches the readers attention. It makes a reader wonder and guess why is a blueberry white? The written text of this concept book introduces readers to colors but not just ordinary colors. It allows a reader to see the deep meaning of colors. It shows how different things can look depending on how you look at them. Dronzek did a marvelous job with the illustrations. The drawings in the whole book are drawn beautifully with rich deep colors, that enhance the story. The main idea behind the story is wonderful. The author says a color, what it is for, and this makes the reader wonder why the author chose the item because it is intially not the color of the text mentioned. Throughout the book the author talks about an aspect of the item that makes the reader understand the color coordination.
This book would be useful when teaching... • Teachers can use this book when introducing color. It should be used after students master the main colors. Once students know their colors the teacher can read this story to the children aloud. Reading this concept book aloud allows students to see and understand colors beyond just a thought of red is for an apple. The last lines of this book teach children a valuable lesson about looking at the world in different ways and how important it is not to see an item and take it for what is appears. • Teachers can use this book to not only teach children colors, but he/ she can use the moral of the story to have children learn about looking at nature and life in different ways. After the book is read aloud and discussed the teacher can have children come up with new ideas just like in the book and create additional pages to the book. |
